A woman who made international headlines after she sued a Northeast Portland restaurant, claiming it humiliated her when she tried to dine alone on Valentine’s Day, has settled a lawsuit that originally demanded $100,000 and a public apology.
Kathleen Hampton and the owner of Enzo’s Caffe Italiano signed an agreement — filed Monday — that prevents Hampton and the restaurant from talking about the terms of the settlement. That includes disclosing whether any money exchanged hands.
But one thing is clear: She didn’t get the apology she’d been seeking. Nonetheless, the Feb. 26 lawsuit filed by Hampton — who represented herself — has had a big impact since The Oregonian/OregonLive first reported on it. Judging from the more than 600 reader comments, it touched a nerve.
